Background: A highschool student films himself performing some of his favorite jedi moves with a golf ball retriever and then forgets to take the film. Some other students find the film and share it on Kazaa. Latest estimates suggest the video has been viewed 900 million times.
What Has Happened Since?: Lawsuits and George Lucas….
Ghyslain Raza later sued 4 of his former classmates for “harassment and derision from his high-school mates and the public at large” He did manage to pull about $350,000 for the settlement. Almost as popular as the originals, the spinoffs of this video are what rocketed it into interweb stardom. News anchor Stephen Colbert issued a green screen challenge on his show in late 2006. Mr Colbert did an impersonation of the star wars kid on a studio green screen and asked viewers to add their own effects. The contest also included an “entry” from George Lucas. Here is the video on AOLVideo.
Editor’s Notes: FYI – If you make a video you dont want anyone to see, either dont make it or delete and then break it on its way to the trash can. Too bad for this kid that he didnt cash in on this beyond the settlement. Speaking of settlement! Come on, these guys can hardly be liable for some content that was created and left out in public. He could have been the founder of an internet phenom justice league.
